i visited cathedral at cologne and strausburg. i would like to write about what i saw and felt during this visit.
cologne's. huge space, enormous in length as well as height. many monumental objects from long long time ago, such as sculptures of priests or jesus, and so on. recently an artist called gerhard richter installed stained glass on one of the windows. really minimal but colorful and beautiful. an old lady came up to me and asked what i think about this work. i said i can't really make a comment yet, but sure, it's colorful and beautiful. according to her, they are too small and precise... maybe this piece needs more time to be looked at. i don't think richter would depict a story from jesus or any other relligious thing just for this, so i felt this was correct for him.
strausburg has also a big cathedral, but not as big as cologne's. huge space. high ceiling. there was a huge circular stained glass. i heard choirs singing hymn. than, i had a strange feeling about what this church was doing to me or giving me. i felt like it was pointing out somewhere, a material place or maybe somekind of state of mind. i'm not really sure where it is or what that was. but, in words, it was holy, i think. i don't know if that was spiritual. "here." this place exists. and not only in church, but also outside, in our daily life. maybe it's my misunderstanding, but i felt like the church had an expression of holiness that exists in daily life...
experience, space, and world in church.
on sundays, there's father and priest moreover the church. you can learn about love and gratitude. you can also make confessions and ask for forgiveness.

Those Richter windows look nice. It's amazing how a religious institution like a church can have the freedom to collaborate with a contemporary artist.
I see what you mean. If its in japan, you have to spend enormous time and energy to change the regulation in the complex bureaucratic system. I am wondering who is involved for decision making whether its allowed or not...
