human world

I went to Cologne, again. Sorry, no pics this time. Camera is broken.

Well, I went to Cologne because there was an art fair called Art Cologne from 16. - 20. April, 2008. I visited there on the 20th. They used three big Halle and every Halle were packed with Galleries, in other words artworks. It took me about 7 hours to see all the works, even though I was moving around in a fast pace. There were works from Max Ernst, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Christo, Oleg Kulik, Ulrike Rosenbach, Sugimoto, Guersky, Michael Wesely... are the ones I remember. I encountered lots of new artworks and found lots of new artists. I wasn't able to catch how great the artworks were and what the artists want to do. Maybe because I was too desperate on trying to look everything in one day, also exhaustion, and not much order in exhibiting. Every work of art costs a lot. money money money.

I had about an hour for sightseeing the city of Cologne.
I met a street performer, or should I say a homeless, who was sitting on the ground, playing a recorder, the musical instrument. I don't know the title of the song he played, but I've noticed that he only played one song which lasted about a minute. Everytime when the song was over, he gives himself about 10 seconds break. During the break, his body was moving back and forth, and he was stretching his hands by grasping his fists. He had a pretty serious facial expression. It seemed to me like he was encouraging himself to play much much better than previously played. I've watched him play for about ten minutes.
In front of the main station in Cologne, I met another 'homeless' guy. he was also sitting down on the ground, but this guy had a cigarette between his fingers, unlit. His eyes were almost closed. he was also moving his body back and forth, but had more movements in his arms and head. What he was doing is I don't know, but he was just blah, blah, blah, talking to himself, nonunderstandable things. Somehow, I never saw him like he was unsatisfied, or maybe had somekind of satisfaction in his life. and then, I wanted to see what happens when I tell him to stay healthy. But I didn't.
I arrived back to karlsruhe, where I live. I was walking down a street and from front, a skinny tall guy came walking. He had somekind of bag in one hand. He was eating some simple food, some sort of crackers. From my perception, he was so happy and satisfied that he could eat this crackers every day, and he is eating this cracker now. He was walking down the street with a great mood, dancing a bit, and quitly grasping his fist after putting the cracker into his mouth.
These three encounters were much shocking, interesting, and impressing to me than the artworks I saw at Art Cologne. How much do the artworks at Art Cologne valuable, useful, helpful, influencial to the public society. There seemed to be a gap between the art world and the society.

Everyone wants to be satisfied and happy, I think. At least I do.
