Absorption - figures in the pictures are immersed in their own world and activities and display no awareness of the construct of the picture and the necessary presence of the viewer for the picture.

Theatricality - picture that is constructed with the awareness of the viewer. The viewer will be aware that the viewer is looking at the picture.
